Moments: From Extravagant Programs to Extraordinary Moments captures the essence, key ingredients, and how-tos of good dementia care. This book explores dementia care with a focus on C.A.R.E. (Compassion, Attention, Respect, and Empathy), a simple model of approach for programming that can guide interventions and interactions with a focus on creating moments. Each chapter ends with reflection questions that allow health care professionals to contemplate on their practice and discover the benefits of creating meaningful moments. Offering real-world examples of professionals who have had impact, this book brings to life the C.A.R.E approach and provides ways for the health care professionals to adapt and achieve moments that will impact quality of life for those in their care.
The author is a recreation therapist and Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA) with a master’s degree in health leadership and policy: senior’s care. She is also the assistant executive director and director of lifestyles and therapeutic services at a complex care home.
This book was written with health care professionals in mind, most specifically recreation professionals, but could easily be a primer for others in caregiving roles.
